Security expert Bruce Schneier has a great blog entry called The Security of Checks and Balances. It addresses the way Bush has been shifting the balance of power in our government to strongly favor the executive branch, and how Kerry’s words appear to say he’s going to continue that trend.
In my opinion, it’s yet another example of why I don’t want either of these men to be our president, and I really don’t want to vote for either of them.
My leanings at the moment are to vote Libertarian. Badnarik doesn’t have much of a political track record, but at least our values largely coincide. Yes, I understand all the arguments that this splits the vote or that I’m essentially throwing it away. I imagine the way things are going in Illinois, it may as well be a vote for Kerry.
But you know what? I hope it does split the vote. I hope we do have another election fiasco like we did in 2000, and Rush Blowhard is right regarding his prediction that Kerry lawyers will descend from the rafters and contest votes in major polling places. We need election reform. Badly.
And the black eye Florida gave us last time around just wasn’t big enough to make it happen.
