It’s Devil’s Night, not that it matters much around here. I never heard of it until I saw The Crow, and only then found out the 30th really is considered Devil’s Night out East.
The Midget’s already had his costume on to show off to a few local folks — for his first Halloween, he’s going to be Batman. And since the wife and mom-in-law didn’t want the Squirt to be left out, they bought him a dinosaur outfit.
Normally I would have insisted on something scarier. It’s Halloween, after all, and I’m a horror writer. I would have loved to have made or found a Cthulhu costume for the Midget, but I have zero skill in whipping up something like that and have had no luck in finding anything. The closest the wife could get in stores was something called The Gatekeeper, which she described as a troll-like outfit. Sounded alright, but they didn’t have any that fit the Midget.
“How about Spider-Man?” She had asked. Yeah, that’s scary. I told her if I have to settle for a superhero, make it Batman. So that’s what she found. At least it’s the gray-and-black Batman, too, not the funky blue that always looks like crap on a real outfit. It’s got the artificial muscular chest, the fins on the forearms, the whole nine yards. Kid loves it, so I guess I’m happy, too.
I spent the day working on The Project. Or re-working it, I should say; I’m rewriting most of the second half. I’m happy to say I made good progress, and should be able to finish the rewrites tomorrow. That’ll probably mean I have to edit it this week, which will shave a little time off the beginning of NaNoWriMo, but I’ll survive.
One way or the other, I intend to have it back in the publisher’s hands soon. Once again, wish me luck.
For now, I intend to take advantage of the hour of sleep gained in daylight savings time. Sweet.
