Maybe They Get It

I just read that the Starz cable network is launching a download service called Vongo.

Here’s a key quote from a Gartner researcher rather than a company shill:

“I think portability is one of its potential strengths, but … it isn’t primarily for portable video,” Behrens said. “In fact, I think that’s one of the things that Starz is getting right. It isn’t just about portable video, and it isn’t just about downloading movies, but it seeks to meet the need of consumers to have whatever medium they want, where they want it, when they want it.”

Wow. That’s great. Now I wonder how long before Hollywood or the MPAA smells blood in the water and the feeding frenzy begins…

On a side note, what’s with these bizarro names? Vonage, Vongo… Vafuck? Intel’s no better with their Viiv crap, either.
