Diebold Hacked Again

It stuns me that districts and polling places are still using Diebold equipment. Today, The Register reports on another Diebold voting machine hack that is easy as flipping a switch.

The naysayers dismiss it because the hacker would need physical access to the machine and would have to remove the cover. Yes, that’s true. But polling place workers, electoral commissioners, and so on, all have such access, as do Diebold personnel. Anyone along the chain of possession before and after the machine appears in a polling place can manipulate the machine.

Cynical as it sounds, I can think of only one reason changes to the machines have not been implemented: the politicians are afraid of a level playing field.
