I had a conversation with a local that went something like this:
Me: “Do you know where I can get a good beef sandwich around here?”
Them: “What, like Arby’s?”
Me: “No, I’m looking for Italian beef.”
Them: “What’s that?”
Me: “AAUUUUGGGGGGHHHHHHH!!!!!”
Needless to say, it’s been some time since I’ve had one. Thus, when John decided to tease me with a link to GreaseFreak.com, it worked (bastard!). I know I’ve moved farther from Chicago, but man, I didn’t expect to be stepping into a foreign land. Pizza around here is passable, but no Italian beef? Inexcusable!
I just heard about a place that may work out, though. There’s a small town about 15 miles from here that I’m told has a restaurant and bar called Paisan’s, and they serve Italian beef. The guy who told me about it lives in that town, but he’s familiar with Portillo’s so hopefully knows the kind of quality I’m seeking.
Cross your fingers for me.
And for them. If their beef sucks, I may just set the place on fire.
