The wind farm project slated to begin construction in my area has finally been approved. If I remember right, they should be breaking ground any time now as they want to begin generating power by next summer.
The turbines are going to be huge, but I’m not worried about it. With my local power company increasing rates and threatening blackouts, we need the expansion. More and more homes are going up, and logic dictates they’ll be soaking up more energy. I’d rather see big wind towers than fossil burners, especially since all the crybabies are afraid of nuke power.
Today I read this article about some new turbines that are in development. (The design is old, but it’s been streamlined and there are new tests.) They’re supposed to be quieter, more efficient, and operate at higher wind speeds. If you scroll down through the comments, you’ll see where one person has linked in a fragment of an article from The Economist that discusses a lot of the benefit.
I can do with out the persistence-of-vision marketing signs — that will be an eyesore. But if these things are both more efficient and can appease the PETA nuts, then I say more power to ‘em.

wouldn’t that be more power to YOU? {grin}

You would think so, but no, it all goes up to Chicago and elsewhere.
However, I’m told my taxes might go down, or at least stay still for a while, so there is that.
