Smoke Blog: Gurkha Stripe

Gurkha Stripe

First off, Brian has a bad habit of abusing cigars. He has no humidor, and he chops them to pieces before he somehow manages to get them lit. We did our best to correct t his, but the rest of the cigars in his gallon-size Ziplock are probably cringing in terror. As you shall see over the next day or two, I tried to liberate the souls of as many of them as possible to spare them the shame and pain.

I started Friday night with the Gurkha pictured above. The light brown swirl is an outer wrapper wound around the darker brown cigar wrapper. I didn’t concentrate on the flavors of this one as we were yapping and drinking, but I do recall it was good.

It also lasted a long time, near two hours at least as we watched most of a horrible Lifetime movie about a kid addicted to Internet pr0n and the evils of the Internet in general (and of course skewered it in proper MST3K fashion). At least Kelly Lynch is still hot.

I don’t know I’d have bought one of these myself, other than for the novelty value of smoking it once. I didn’t get the sense the outer wrapper did anything but change the look of the smoke; there was nothing in the flavor that made me wonder if it added to the blend. It unwound a little in the middle, but I presume that may have been due to it drying out slighly while sitting in the Ziplock.

In the end, yeah, it was good, but I see no reason to go seeking it out for my own humidor.
