Brian just posted a poll on his message board about my first novel, Deadliest of the Species. It’s a simple question: if it were reprinted, would you buy a copy? If yes, shoot on over to this thread and say so.
This book is a funny animal, and I half joke that it’s cursed. It came out back in 2001 and the initial run was small and the books themselves messy. Despite that, it won a Bram Stoker Award and a mass market publisher expressed interest.
Then things were quiet for a while. Some close calls but no real movement. The curse part really comes into play when I’d send it to someone and then never hear from them again. I would follow up but get no response. And again, things were quiet.
More recently, people have been asking about the book. I’m not sure where they’re hearing about it, but I’ve had half a dozen or so people in the past couple of months asking where they can get a copy, why it’s not still available, when a trade or paperback is coming out, and so on. And these are strangers, not the folks who already know me from conventions and message boards.
What I’ve suggested to some is they tell their favorite publishers. Publishers and editors listen to these things. With five years between the initial printing and now, it’s hard to convince them the book will sell. They need to see the demand.
Now’s your chance. Shoot on over to Brian’s board and speak your mind, or drop an email to your publisher of choice and tell them how badly you want to see a new edition of the book. Hell, do both.
You’ll make Brian a happy man, as I’m sure he’s sick of hearing me bitch about it.

Funny, I’ve been hearing a lot lately about SINS OF BLOOD AND STONE, as well.
Could be because we’re doing things again. We were both dry, publishing-wise, for a little while there, and then the beast called Muy Mal came, and comic books and new novels and novellas, and it was all fun and happy again. {grin}

I don’t think you guys realize how much attention Muy Mal is garnering. Those who read it, dig it—stands to reason they want more.

I did say fun and happy again, didn’t I? {wicked grin}
