Okay, not really. But we did sign plenty of books.
Both Comix Connection stores were cool places, but I especially dug the one in Mechanicsburg. It was spread out, it was easy to browse, and they had plenty of shelf talkers to highlight some of the books. And unlike one of my local stores, the guys behind the counter know what they’re talking about and seem eager to help people.
As you can see from the sign, Mike Hawthorne joined Brian Keene and I. Brian signed copies of Fear to celebrate its launch and had several of his novels on hand. Mike is the new artist on Vertigo’s upcoming series Un-Men and he was able to show off some of his artwork, as well as sign the two fill-in issues of Exterminators he worked on.
A big thanks to Bill Wahl for having us all out there. Unlike some places we’ve signed for, he promoted the event and we had a few passersby drop in and pick up books. Brian was the biggest draw by far, and a handful of people brought in their own books for inscriptions. While traffic can always be higher at such events, we still had a great time and it was a worthwhile trip. I’ll be looking forward to signing Wounded Gods out there!
Thanks also to the gang from Brian’s message board for coming out. As a group, they spent the bulk of the money there and it was good to put some faces to names and finally meet some of these guys.
The day had almost the feel of a small convention; you get to hang out, but don’t have all the attendant bullshit a con can bring. I can’t wait to do it again!
