I decided, though, that nobody wants to see my fat gut (and I’ve got several “Fat Mike” pics in my collection) so I instead went for a pic of me working out.
Feeling comfortable while working out is important, so rather than throwing on baggy sweats and an old t-shirt and feeling like a schlub, I went out and bought a set of exercise clothes and and finally retired my old sneakers in favor of a new pair of running shoes. Both were inexpensive yet don’t look or feel that way, and I found they’re a lot more comfortable to work out in. They breathe easier without being baggy, and don’t hinder movement.
Tomorrow I get another new workout uniform: a karate gi. My son started last week, and my plan was originally to wait until summer to see how the finances shake out and how the class goes for Tim. During his second session, I came to three realizations:
1) If I keep putting it off, I’m never going to do it.
2) If I join, it will be easier to help the Midget practice.
3) My health is worth it.
4) If I have to be there anyway, I may as well be on the mat.
My friends who practice martial arts tell me I’m going to feel it after my first lesson, that muscles I’ve forgotten about will be sore.
I’m actually looking forward to it.
