AppleTV

If AppleTV is as cool as it looks and isn’t 100% locked in to iTunes, it may very well be the end of satellite in my house. Even if I don’t go for torrents and stick to paid downloads, it’s potentially a hell of a lot cheaper than DirecTV given my viewing habits.

And it costs less than the high-end iPods!

My best advice for DirecTV? Get that a la carte service going soon, because this on-demand stuff is going to destroy you.

Forget the Apple TV. Go with an XBox 360 instead. You can get full HD (1080i and 1080P) whereas the apple TV only does 780P. Also, you can buy stuff directly from the interface (ATV requires itunes) You can store stuff on additional USB hard drives added, it has a DVD player built in (ATV doesnt) and it’s a gaming console to boot.

Also, if you ever wanted to go with a music rental service (like Yahoo, or Napster) you could and it would work on the XBox. No rentals on ATV.

The only thing apple has going for it over MS in this one is that apple has more content from TV at this point. I do expect that to change over time.

Besides, how about playing games with Kraig and I over XBox live? :-)

Anyway, seriously think about the XBox before you just jump on the ATV bandwagon…

Ah, good points. I thought it could do 1080, maybe I read it too fast.

Will the 360 play all media types? I imagine, iTunes or not, that I’ll be able to grab a MPEG4 torrent and watch it on the AppleTV. Will the 360 do that?

I also figure it’s only a matter of time before the AppleTV is hacked to get around iTunes and other limitations.

AppleTV…you got such cool things in the US. Gotta wait a year or two for that in old Europe I guess. :-(
