R.I.P. Peter Steele

Woke up to reports Type O Negative singer and bassist Peter Steele died of heart failure at age 48.

I’ve seen the band live three or four times, both as headliners of their own show and as part of larger music festivals like OzzFest. I enjoyed their music and really dug Steele’s deep vocals.

About Mike Oliveri

Mike Oliveri is a writer, martial artist, cigar aficionado, motorcyclist, and family man, but not necessarily in that order. He is currently hard at work on the werewolf noir series The Pack for Evileye Books.

That’s a shame. Long before he partnered with Siris or hacked his way through the pages of RAZE, Kast was just an inkling of a character inspired in part by Peter Steele.

How could this go by without me seeing it? Damn! There’ll be no replacing Steele’s voice. I met him once at the mall in downtown Salt Lake City. Type O was the second opening act for Ozzy down in Provo and I was on my way to Provo to watch it. Huge guy, but without the Huge Guy Tude(tm). Very cool, very mellow. Guess all that relatively healthy living he believed in didn’t help. Crap.
