I think I’m going to call Photo Friday 2010 a beta. Now that I know what derailed me, it’s time to get a fresh start and give it another shot this year.
Looking back at last year’s shots, I think there’s some good stuff, there, but there’s also some room for growth.
In just glancing at the thumbnails, I can tell which ones I took the time to set up for, and which ones I did the last-minute rush job on. Fortunately I also remember the lessons I learned in shooting several of the latter. Not that I won’t cheat and shoot a fun candid from time to time, but I’d like to keep most of them a little more creative.
I’d like this to be the year I shoot a couple photos for selling prints of, too. Or maybe stock art. Something I can try to turn a buck on, even if it’s only two or three shots all year. I’d probably have to post those shots somewhere other than Flickr, given most of my pics are Creative Commons, but that’s not the end of the world. I’ll figure it out when the time comes; I’ve got to shoot a photo worth a damn, first.
Meanwhile, I best start thinking on a subject for this Friday. I thought about following another group’s weekly themes, but like last year, I’m worried that will be a little too restrictive. If I don’t allow myself some freedom, I’ll end up losing interest fast. Instead I think I’ll start dropping more of my photos into other groups to get some feedback, maybe jump into a forum somewhere. Maybe I’ll learn a little faster that way, pick up a few more tricks.
Oh yeah, and this year it’s time to shoot them all in RAW and drop them into Lightroom. No more screwing around.
Let’s do this.
