Photo Friday: Slice ‘n’ Dice

I needed a self-portrait with a katana or samurai theme for a website I’m putting together for my ed-tech career, and I settled on this.

Samurai Self Portrait

You'll cut your eye out, kid.

I could probably have made a few more tweaks, but the intended use is only as a thumbnail, so I didn’t want to get too crazy with editing.

I shot it with the 18-55mm kit lens all the way down at 18. I used my SpeedLite with a Opteka diffuser attached. I’m not sure what I think of it yet. With some test shots, it didn’t seem to make a difference. Other times it did have a more pleasing, diffuse light. It’ll really be put through its paces when I use it at a wedding in a week, but I do plan to do more experimenting with it.
