Attention Pirates

Some books are expensive. I get it.

But some readers claim to be huge fans of certain writers even as they are distributing the writers’ books for free behind their backs. Or worse, these pirates are taking the writers’ works and turning them into books for their own personal gain.

This is douchebaggery in its highest form.

Creators are not flattered by this behavior. This is not spreading the word about how awesome we are.

If you want to see us continue to create and entertain you, then we have to be able to afford to do what we do. Brian Keene can’t support himself on a pirate’s profits. I can’t go full time by writing for people unwilling to spend money on the work.

I recognize piracy is out there. I recognize some people downloading the works will never have purchased the works in the first place. But taking published content and passing it around for profit is theft, plain and simple.

Finally, a reminder:

Some of us can’t afford lawyers, but we can always afford our fists.
