Photo Friday (on Monday): Carnation

Sometimes the first shot is all you need.

I was at work on a DVD and photo slideshow on Friday, so while it was rendering and burning I thought I’d try to set up a basic flower closeup. I took a few test shots, then set up the tripod and started playing with the exposure triangle: the aperture, the shutter speed, and the ISO. I tried a few things with flash and some long exposures, and tried a few different angles.

After all that time, shot number one looked the best on the screen. Go figure.

Enjoy. Itll be dead soon.

Lessons learned: 1) Try to take the pic before the Wife cuts the stem (or use a clamp or something to get the glass out of the picture); 2) Invest in a decent, black backdrop of some kind instead of the old, wrinkly, navy blue curtain that’s sun-bleached on one side.
