Photo Friday: Eye in the Sky

Last Saturday, I used an extra ticket at the Chicagoland Speedway in Joliet for the NASCAR Nationwide Series race. The Wife and I sat together in the top row, and I used my 55-250mm lens to snap off a few shots.

Eye in the Sky - The Goodyear Blimp

It’s been a while since I’ve followed NASCAR. My wife’s family gets tickets every year, but I stopped after seeing the same four or five guys—none of whom I cared for—winning all the time. There’s more racing and sport involved than many people will admit, but the winners are generally the teams and drivers with the fattest wallets.

5-Hour Energy

Guess who I decided to root for? Love the stuff.

The Nationwide Series race is their second-tier series, and it wasn’t very exciting. I fell asleep for about 20 laps near the beginning, and the leaders far outpaced the rest of the field. 11 cars were out within the first 50 laps due to breakdowns and problems, and there was one spinout. Snoozefest.

Backstretch Spin

I didn't watch racing just for the wrecks, but they are part of racing

We also got to see some of the Sprint Cup Series cars while they were qualifying. I didn’t realize Security Benefit had a Thank a Teacher Today car. I work in education and being able to support teachers and students is one of the more satisfying parts of the job, so it was cool to see something positive about teachers out there.

Thank a Teacher Today

If you’ve got little ones in school, pick up a thank you card this weekend and drop it in your child’s backpack on Monday. I guarantee you’ll make the teacher’s day.
